LoLo’s newest slice of pizza heaven
Strolling home from an accidentally-too-intense barre class, I noticed that Dave and Mel’s had finally opened! Naturally this meant I cancelled my leftover plans and decided to eat pizza instead. Less than five minutes later, I was walking out with two hot slices, already plotting my next visit to this new local spot.
I was expertly guided through my excited indecision by Dave himself, landing on a baseline Marjherita and the North Shore Shredder.
The Marjherita (left): red sauce, fresh basil, fior di latte, extra virgin olive oil (“just like the classic, but named after Dave’s mom”)
The North Shore Shredder (right): red sauce, shredded & on the wheel pepperoni, mushrooms, house blend cheeses
While this remains a preliminary assessment due to lack of resources (patience, time) and logistical challenges (hunger), a few key items stood out:
Each slice carried itself with a palpable sense of intention and confidence, like a perfectly orchestrated choreography: every component from sauce to topping to crust knew what to do and when.
The “red sauce” absolutely shines, reminding us that tomatoes really are fruit after all, with a fragrant freshness that can only come from sauces that are homemade with love.
Last but not least, the CRUST – wow – truly a work of art blending a serious crunch with a tender softness together in equally satisfying ways. I’ve never been so excited to reach the end of a slice of pizza! I ended my experience in bittersweet bliss.
Also a round of applause for gluten-free dough *for the same price*
